Boulder Junction Camping Tips

March 20, 2023

There’s nothing like sleeping in the forest under a canopy of stars. The Boulder Junction area is home to a variety of scenic campgrounds that give visitors a chance to connect with, and enjoy, the natural beauty of the area. Here are some quick tips to help you get the most out of your next camping trip.

Stock up

Be prepared! Head to Lakewood Market to pick up food and beverages! The market has everything you need for campfire cooking, including firewood. Just around the corner and down the street, Northern Highland Sports will take care of your gear needs. Forget something at home? No problem. They sell everything from fishing tackle to beach towels.

Consider all the options

You have a lot of camping sites to choose from around Boulder Junction. Want to get away from it all? Consider a primitive campsite in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest (NHAL Forest). NHAL forest has remote campsites, as well as ones that you can reach by canoe. NHAL forest also has a number of group campgrounds and some modern sites. A great choice for adults is the Land O’Lakes Nature RV Resort featuring pull-thru sites with great amenities included. This campground is on a 215-acre property and is for adults (25+ only). If you’re looking for an option a little less remote that is good for families, consider Camp Holiday, located on Rudolph Lake. It has complete camping facilities with RV electric hook-ups, including a camp store, boat rentals, a sandy beach and game room.

Bring the recreation equipment

Boulder Junction is the place for outdoor fun. Get the most out of your trip by bringing a canoe or kayak, a road or mountain bike, fishing rod & tackle, birdwatching gear and hiking boots – but remember to save room for the tent! If you’re looking to rent equipment, Coontail offers bikes, kayaks and paddleboards.

Return to civilization

While you’re never far from natural beauty in Boulder Junction, you’re also never far from great meals located in town, and some of the best shopping and art galleries in the Northwoods. Treat yourself with a trip into town when your camping adventure is complete.
