Boulder Junction Public Library “Art in the Library” November Exhibit – Students of Melinda Schnell’s Watercolor Class
November 8 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
The Boulder Junction Public Library welcomes the public to view their next “Art in the Library” exhibit. The Library Art Committee and Board of Trustees selected the students of Melinda Schnell’s watercolor class for the November exhibit. Their artwork will be on display in the Reading Room, above the photocopier and in the Children’s Area during regular library hours.
The public is invited to meet the student artists at a reception to be held on Thursday, November 8 from 6:00-7:30 pm in the library. The event is free, and refreshments will be served.
Students from Schnell’s watercolor classes will be displaying some of their recent paintings. All of the pieces are examples of their continuing journey with the medium. Some of these artists are just beginning and others have been painting for some time.
Schnell encourages everyone to find their own subject and build on the basic principles of composition, color and design. She is constantly amazed by her students’ enthusiasm and the paintings they produce.
Schnell loves painting with watercolors. She explains, there is never a dull moment when you dip into your water jar and decide what color, how much paint to mix, where and when to put it down on your paper, and when to walk away while the painting works its own magic. Watercolors are her medium of choice for all of these reasons and more. Schnell’s mother was an illustrator, painter and teacher so she has always been close to art and artists.
Schnell started her art education at the Columbus College of Art and Design and went on to Chicago to study at The American Academy of Art where she became interested in watercolors. She began teaching 10 years ago and found that she enjoyed passing on what she’s learned and seeing the results.
Schnell offers classes on Mondays in Manitowish Waters and on Thursday evenings in Minocqua through Nicolet College Continuing Education.
