Kiwanis Poker Paddle for Kids
September 14 @ 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters, Rhinelander, Eagle River, Tomahawk, Minocqua, Arbor Vitae and Woodruff, WI: The Lakeland Area Kiwanis announces the “Kiwanis Poker Paddle” is a fundraising event scheduled for September 14th, 2019. This event is hoped to be the signature event for the Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club to support youth activities and programs in the Lakeland Area.
Dan Brunette, club secretary, explains, “This fun event is similar to a typical “Poker Run” except that it is on the water in non-motorized watercraft. The event is staged on the beautiful Manitowish Chain with a starting point at Little Star Beach in Manitowish Waters.
Paddlers will navigate the waters of Little Star Lake, Manitowish Lake and Spider Lake, continue to Stone Lake and up the channel to Rest Lake. The finish location will be at Rest Lake Park pavilion. There will be stops at 5 business locations along the way to collect cards for the winning 5-card draw poker hand.” These business stops are Aberdeen Bar & Restaurant, Greer’s Pier, Blue Bayou Inn, Parkside Tavern and Pea Patch Motel & Saloon who will be your hosts.
Rest Lake Park is the headquarters for the finish line and Paddle Party. Julie Nickelsen shared that…“Awards, dinner, music, prizes and lots of fun activities will all take place there at the park!” The paddler with the best poker hand will win $300.00 and the paddler with the worst poker hand will win $150.00. At the camp, there will be a cook out picnic starting at 4pm along with music and other fun raffles, door prizes and raffle baskets.
This is not a timed event and is meant to be enjoyed at your leisure. Launch time at Little Star Beach is shortly after 10am and the approximate paddle time will be about 3 hours and the distance is about 7 miles, so there is plenty of time to visit with other paddlers and meet new friends.
Brunette further states, “We have more exciting news! The club is raffling off an Old Town Vapor 10 kayak package donated by our Title Sponsor, Chequamegon’s Adventure Company, Andrew Teichmiller, owner. Our club is pleased to have the support of Chequamegon’s Adventure Company along with the 23 other local sponsors listed on our website. This event would not be possible without their support. Our goal is to be able to help more youth in our area be all that they can be!”
