Deep Time in the Northwoods: Geology’s Contributions to Our Changing Landscape
April 14 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
$14 – $17One of the most profound contributions to modern scientific thought is the concept of geologic time. Geology as a science did not develop uniformly- rather it developed a workable and testable model of Earth’s long history in fits and starts. Closely linked to this evolving understanding of Earth’s past was the implication of time periods much, much longer than human oral and written history. Author John McPhee coined the term “Deep Time” to refer to the concept of time that extends vastly beyond that of human experience. Join Geologist Mike Porter as he highlights some of the surprising, contentious and ultimately relevant discoveries that led to our current understanding of geologic time.
