This month’s program is “Using Local and County Histories for Genealogical Research” with featured speaker, Karen Fortin, live on Zoom. Local and county histories are often overlooked resources that can contain a wealth of resources on your ancestors and the places that they lived. This presentation explores the background of local and county history books, what information can be found in them, and where to find them, both in print and online. Karen A. Fortin received degrees in History and Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida. She worked in a public library for 30 years before deciding to devote her time to genealogical research. She began volunteering with the Pinellas Genealogy Society in Largo, FL in 2012 and was the society’s president from 2014-2017. Karen began providing genealogical and history presentations in 2016 and has presented lectures for various genealogical societies, public libraries, and other organizations. One of her goals is to help people explore historical periods, places, and events so that they can better understand their ancestors and the world in which they lived.
All persons interested in genealogy and family history, from beginner to advanced, are welcome to attend. For more information, please call 715-686-7339.
This meeting will follow the latest Covid-19 safety protocols for the Library and Community Center. For further details on Covid protocols, please visit the Boulder Junction Public Library website at https://www.boulderjunctionlibrary.org/.
