Paddling Gem: Allequash Lake

Allequash Lake and Pines is a designated State Natural Area (SNA) and is located within Northern Highland State Forest. That being stated, there is no development on this lake and the Southern basin has a no-motor restriction. The Southern basin of the Allequash Lake is a birder’s paradise due to the Wild Rice, Cat-tail, and other aquatic plants species that thrive there. Birders can spot Red-winged Blackbirds, Eastern Kingbirds, Loons, a variety of Warblers and duck species throughout the spring and fall months. There are two primitive campsites on Northern basin of Allequash Lake. Reservations for these sites can 1-year in advance and be made at: Wisconsin.goingtocamp.com

Bottom: 60% sand, 30% gravel, 10% rock, 0% muck

Location: From Boulder Junction, follow Hwy M about 4 miles and turn right onto Allequash Lake Road. The boat landing is at the dead-end of the road.
