Cross-Country Ski Report

January 27, 2023

With a variety of ski trails to explore in our area, the cross-country ski trail exploration is seemingly limitless!

BOULDER JUNCTION WINTER PARK:

Open for ice-skating (rink lit until 10:30pm), snowshoeing, sledding, and dog-walking. Cross-country skiing is permitted, however the trail is not tracked.

ESCANABA TRAILS:

Friday, 1/27- Trails are groomed for classic cross-country skiing.  Groomed and tracked all loops. Expect minor debris on the trail and drifting on the yellow/blue along Pallette Lake and on the blue/red along Lost Canoe Lake due to high winds. Overall very good conditions.

LUMBERJACK TRAILS:

Sunday, 1/22- Blue loop has been packed and groomed. Good conditions.

MADELINE LAKE TRAILS:

Friday, 1/27 – Several new inches of snow this week. All loops were leveled and tracked. Great conditions.

MCNAUGHTON TRAILS:

Friday, 1/27 -Trails are groomed for skate and classic cross-country skiing and were packed on 1/27.  The classic loops were tracked, and the skater’s loop was groomed. There is some drifting on the red skater’s loop. Conditions are very good overall.

NORTH LAKELAND DISCOVERY CENTER:

Friday, 1/27 – The trails were groomed early this past week and the plan is to groom again tomorrow (Saturday) morning.  Snow we’ve had the past few days has blown over the tracks, but certainly still skiable.  Snowshoe trails are in good shape right now.

NORTH LAKELAND SCHOOL TRAILS:

Friday, 1/27 – The classic cross-country ski trail will be groomed and tracked again on Saturday, 1/28/23.  All trails have been rolled/groomed and trails are in good condition!

RAVEN TRAILS:

Thursday, 1/26 – All ski loops have been groomed and tracked. Good conditions.

RAZORBACK RIDGES:

Wednesday, 2/1 – Skied Oak Ridge, Hair Raiser and Short Cut this afternoon on the classic side. Tracks were hard and very fast. Unfortunately there is a fair amount of oak leaves and other litter in places. Otherwise it was a good ski with a trail rating of mostly good and some fair. Grooming plan is to regroom Friday night and Saturday morning. Should be able to get things in good shape for the weekend.

WINMAN TRAILS:

Thursday, 2/2 -We’ve had about 1″ of new snow this morning and winds in the 15-20 mph range at times. As a result, the trails are currently wind blown with a thin layer of snow. Due to poor and windy conditions throughout today, and very cold temperatures in the morning, we will not be grooming again until Friday starting around 4pm. This should allow for very good conditions on Saturday when temperatures raise back up into the 20’s.
