I am Boulder Junction: Favorite Drinks

April 11, 2025

Meet the people who make Boulder Junction a great place to live, play, and stay. “I Am Boulder Junction” highlights the stories and personalities of our local business owners and community members and the welcoming spirit and boundless enthusiasm for the Northwoods you’ll find on your next visit here.

Our locals give the insider scoop on their favorite beverages to order while you’re in Boulder Junction. Spoiler alert, it is probably one of your favorites too!

What is your favorite drink when out and about in Boulder Junction?

Gooch, Owner, Gooch’s 2: In the Northwoods I believe the Old Fashioned’s are very popular. We hand muddle them so they’re homemade without any of the simple syrups. We also sell a lot of Bloody Mary’s and Margarita’s, but the Brandy Old Fashioned’s are probably our number one Wisconsin tradition.

Heidi McCowan, Owner, Fiesta on the Lake: My favorite drink in the summer is a nice cold Bloody Mary. It’s the perfect summer drink and it even has a healthy kick.

Bre Miner, Owner, Aqualand Ale House: Our bestseller is our Aqualand Musky spit which has become a local favorite. It is an Imperial Bourbon Brown Ale and we offer howlers or growlers for customers to take home.

Josie Allen,  Manager, Boulder Junction Area Historical Society: Growing up we always liked to go to the Boulder Beer Bar. The Guide’s Inn has a wonderful sit down dinner and cocktail but all of them are good.

Judy Tegtmeyer, CEO, Camp Manito-Wish: Coming from out of state and moving to Wisconsin I’ve learned that Old Fashioned’s really are the drink of choice. I prefer a whiskey Old Fashioned sour.

Cherie Sanderson, Director, Boulder Junction Public Library: We hold a Books and Brews book club at Aqualand Ale House and they have an amazing tap selection, so I would say that is my favorite place to go.
