Overview:
Established in 1925, the Northern Highland American Legion (NHAL) State Forest occupies more than 236,000 acres and has 900 lakes, 18 campgrounds, 11 hike/ski/snowshoe trails, 50 miles of paved bike trails, more than 100 remote/canoe campsites, 400 miles of snowmobile trails, three shooting ranges, and several picnic areas. Please check at the visitor station to learn where pets are allowed.
All campsites are reservable year-round. 12-month advance reservations can be made online.

Crystal Lake Visitor Station–
Through October 15th:
Saturday-Thursday, 9:00am-4:00pm Sat-Thu,
Friday: 10:30am-6pm
For the last 2 weeks of October, the Crystal Lake Visitor Station will be closed Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays and open the same hours as above on the other days of the week.
Winter hours begin November 1:
Friday & Sunday: 10:00am-4:00pm
