Plan & Play, BOULDER: Where to ATV & UTV
April 28, 2026
Navigating a new area can be confusing, let us help! Here are some tips to follow when you are riding your ATV or UTV in Boulder Junction and surrounding communities.
- Stay on MARKED routes. It is illegal to ride on private property and other unmarked areas.
- Trails (off road) will be marked with 6″x 6″ brown signage with a white ATV silhouette and orange diamond signs. Both must be present to use the trail with an ATV or UTV.
- Routes (public roadways) will be marked with 24″ x 18″ green signs with white ATV silhouette and directional arrows.
- Some trails are designated multi-use trails so be cautious of others (dual-sport, equestrian, and bicyclists).
- Currently only road routes (designated County Highways) are open in Boulder Junction.
- Surrounding communities (St. Germain, Arbor Vitae, Mercer, Land O’ Lakes) all have trails accessible via our road routes.
- All Boulder Junction town roads are marked with signs indicating no ATV/UTV use.
- When legally operating on a roadway you cannot pass other motor vehicles or an ATV/UTV unless they are parked and you cannot have passengers riding outside of designated seats.
- When legally operating on a roadway you must:
- use hand signals when turning or stopping
- operate on the extreme right side of the road
- remain single file
- have headlights and taillights on
- all children ages 12-15 must be accompanied by an adult
Each community is different and it is best to familiarize yourself with that area prior to your trip. More on ATV & UTV regulations can be found here, by visiting the Chamber office, or the DNR website.
