Snowshoes are your ticket into the beautiful Northwoods – they are easy to use and you can trek practically anywhere. We get plenty of snow in Boulder Junction and we have some fantastic places to explore, so this is an ideal place for a snowshoe adventure. Here’s a quick guide to snowshoeing in Boulder Junction.

Where can I go snowshoeing in and around Boulder Junction?

You have a lot of nice options in Boulder Junction and in our surrounding communities. Here are some nice trails to try:

Lumberjack Trail: Located close to downtown Boulder Junction, and an easy gateway to pine and fir forest. For a deep backcountry experience, continue exploring the 225,000-acre Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest.

Fallison Lake Nature Trail: A popular trail system within Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. The trail system traverses diverse forest communities around Fallison Lake. The trails offer spectacular icy lake views, benches for resting, and the opportunity to see a variety of animal species. The yellow trail features informational signage about natural characteristics.

Where can I rent or buy snowshoes?

Coontail rents and sells high-quality snowshoes while Northern Highland Sports has them for sale. If you haven’t used modern snowshoes before, you are in for a treat—they are lightweight and the bindings keep the snowshoes securely on your feet. Both stores are also excellent stops for everything else you’ll need for your snowshoeing adventure including high-quality outdoor gear to stay warm! Stop and look around before you head out, even if you already own snowshoes.
